Well, it was a good run. I have had access to Jalopnik and most of the related sites from my work PC, though it's heavily filtered to remove anything that resembles video. Just a couple of minutes ago, I went from reading an article to getting the dreaded forbidden content message. The offending category? Vehicles. Apparently, my company hates them as much as sex.

Have a very fast 2-door wagon while I sulk.

Wow. They had the gall to list "vehicles" as the culprit?

ouch. that sucks! I dread the day my work filters vehicles. Especially since we are an automotive supplier.

The place I work is so secure that it made sure I was not able to access my own computer.

The filtering problem sounds like something from management. There are ways that you can access your home computer and do web browsing from there if you want to.

Ha! It must have been something temporary in the content filter, because when I just went back to capture a screenshot of the block message, the websites work just fine again. I don't know what kind of service we use for a blacklist, but it's fairly strict. Looks like all of the Gawker sites are working except for this:

You know, I spent WAY too much energy trying to figure out a way to tunnel 'back home' from the corporate network, but never could crack it. Which means they are doing a pretty good job since I have been a Linux admin for way too long and have a pretty good understanding of SSH and SSL. :-)

Now that I work from home almost all the time, it's not as big of a deal. When I go into the office, I just take a couple of tablets and tether off my phone for what I need.
